The Fort Worth Alliance Airport will be the site of a new nearly 160,000-square-foot (14,864-square-meter) maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility that Gulfstream Aerospace will open in 2021. Gulfstream will pour $35 million into the facility, which it expects to generate 50 new jobs. Gulfstream already has a customer support presence about 35 miles away at the Dallas Love Field airport. Roughly 150 to 200 Gulfstream employees at Dallas Love Field will transfer to the new Alliance facility. The rest will remain at Love Field providing maintenance and service to on-site and transient operators. There are 50-plus Gulfstream aircraft based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Gulfstream says.

“A Great Location”

Gulfstream says opening the new facility at Alliance Airport will help Gulfstream meets various needs related to its growing customer fleet. Groundbreaking will occur later this year for the facility, which will feature hangar space, back shops, and employee and customer offices. Gulfstream notes that when Alliance open in 1989, it was considered the first U.S. industrial airport. The airport is the site of Amazon.com and FedEx shipping operations, and sees 300-plus departures and arrivals daily.

Describing Alliance Airport as a “great location,” Derek Zimmerman, Gulfstream customer support president, says the airport is an “established airport for business aviation operators, has an outstanding infrastructure, and is appropriately sized for our operations.” Further, a growing aviation school there will help Gulfstream continue developing new and existing employees, he says.

Gulfstream says the mid-cabin aircraft completions business it operates at Love Field will remain. Last year, Gulfstream also opened maintenance facilities in Wisconsin and California, and it will open others this year in Palm Beach and Farnborough, England.
