Describing the occasion as “momentous” and the next step forward in its “vision for the future,” Gulfstream completed the maiden flight of its upcoming 19-passenger G700 business jet on February 14. Taking place at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport near Gulfstream’s headquarters in Savannah, Georgia, the flight lasted 2 hours, 32 minutes, and was fueled on a 30/70 blend of sustainable aviation fuel. The inaugural flight officially launches what Gulfstream says will be a rigorous flight-test program for “the most spacious jet in the industry with the longest range at the fastest speeds.” Deliveries are expected in 2022.

Long & Tall

Gulfstream, a General Dynamics company, introduced the G700 in October at the 2019 NBAA-BACE show. Earlier in February, it announced an international tour to show potential customers a full-scale mock-up of the jet’s cabin. The flight-test program will include five aircraft. “As the market leader, Gulfstream is moving the entire business jet industry forward with advanced safety features, tomorrow’s technology, and a cabin purposefully designed to exceed our customers’ expectations for comfort,” says Mark Burns, Gulfstream president.

Featuring the industry’s “longest, widest, and tallest cabin,” the G700 measures nearly 57 feet (17.4 meters) long and incorporates a 6.3-ft (1.9-meter)-tall cabin. The aircraft provides 20 panoramic, oval windows, and up to five living spaces are possible. The G700’s “ultragalley,” which Gulfstream says is the industry’s largest, features more than 10 ft of counter space and a crew compartment or passenger lounge.

Range & Speed

Two Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines power the G700, which integrates the Gulfstream Symmetry Flight Deck introduced with Gulfstream’s G500 and G600 business jets. The G700 will support a 6,400-nautical mile (11,853-kilometer) high-speed range at Mach 0.90, 7,500-nautical mile (13,890-kilometer) range at Mach 0.85, and an overall Mach 0.925 top speed.
